About Huntington, NY 11743

Huntington is a thriving community on Long Island, New York. It borders Nassau County to the west and Long Island Sound to the north. It is adjacent to the towns of Smithtown and Babylon. The town has a population of 204,127, according to the 2020 Census. This is a growth from the 203,264 that the town had in 2010. The town is a hub of cultural and historic sites, including a quaint village and a world-famous botanical garden.

A list of historic structures in the town was compiled for the State of New York. This list was used to create a local historic district and individual land marks. These landmarks serve as a symbol of Huntington’s history. While the town’s buildings are in poor condition, many still convey historic significance.

Huntington is home to many entertainment venues. The Cinema Art Center and the Cinema Theatre are two places where you can catch a movie. For nightlife, the Paramount is the place to be. The Paramount has hosted world-class performances by world-famous artists like Ed Sheeran. The Paramount also features live performances every night.

The Huntington NY Guide has over 500 listings. It contains information on the town’s history, local businesses and organizations, as well as events and activities. It also contains lists of ethnic and cultural groups and hobbies. The Huntington Guide is an excellent resource for those looking for information on Huntington and surrounding communities. It’s available free of charge for Huntington members and has a $5 daily fee for non-members. Out-of-town researchers should contact the Society to inquire about fees.

Aside from the Whaling Museum, Huntington also offers numerous cultural attractions. Mariah Carey graduated from Harborfields High School in 1987. Charles Ludlam, an artist who helped create Theatrical Theater, is from Greenlawn. For the movie buff, the Cinema Arts Centre plays new releases, special features and restored classic films. The Paramount Theater is another place where you can enjoy live entertainment.

The town is located on an island that extends from the Long Island Sound to the Atlantic Ocean. The area was originally populated by European settlers, who settled mostly on the north shore. However, the southern shore of the island was valued by local farmers for salt hay. The farmers would cross the island to harvest the salt hay and then cart it back to their farms.

The Town of Huntington is one of the oldest settlements on Long Island. Native Americans once lived on the waterfront areas in Huntington. In the early 17th century, European explorers brought disease and killed many of these tribes. The town of Huntington itself dates back to 1653 when three English settlers from Oyster Bay purchased six square miles of land from Matinecock Indians. The town’s territory grew to more than ten square miles with the signing of the Eastern Purchase.

The Town of Huntington recently purchased the Peter Crippen House, an important link to Huntington’s African American history. This house was vacant for twenty years, and had fallen into serious disrepair. In late 2019, the Town of Huntington purchased the property and turned it into a parking lot for the town’s sewer plant. The town paid a consultant to evaluate the structure, and is now deciding whether to preserve it or redevelop it.

There are a number of ways to research your family’s history. One way to locate your family’s history is by finding vital records. There are many ways to access these records, and the Society’s website can help you find what you’re looking for. Check out the New York Vital Records page for more information.
